چکیده
Carswell, F., and Ferguson, A. (1973). Archives ofDisease in Childhood, 48, 583. Plasma food antibodies during withdrawal and reintroduction of dietary gluten in coeliac disease. Out of 55 patients with coeliac disease, 40 had food antibodies in their plasma at diagnosis. The antibodies disappeared in all but 6 of 21 patients after 2 months on a gluten-free diet. 5 out of these 6 patients had high plasma IgA levels at diagnosis. Reintroduction of wheat and rye gluten was accompanied by the intermittent presence of plasma food antibodies in 7 out of 8 patients subsequently shown to have the small bowel biopsy appearances of coeliac disease. Plasma food antibodies did not appear in 4 patients whose biopsies were normal after reintroduction of gluten. A single test for plasma food antibodies did not reliably indicate minor deviations from the gluten-free diet in established coeliac patients.

The cellular infiltrate of the jejunum in adult coeliac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis following the reintroduction of dietary gluten.
The cellular infiltrate of the jejunal mucosa has been studied in patients with both treated and untreated adult coeliac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis and serially in treated patients before and after the reintroduction of gluten to the diet. In adult coeliac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis the jejunal mucosa showed similar abnormalities of the cellular infiltrate which was characte...
متن کاملSoya protein antibodies in man: their occurrence and possible relevance in coeliac disease.
Circulating antibodies to soya-derived protein antigens have been measured in patients with duodenitis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and coeliac disease. Significantly raised antibody titres were found frequently in the coeliac group, particularly those patients showing a suboptimal response to a gluten-free diet, but rarely in subjects with other gastrointestinal diseases. Antisoya acti...
متن کاملLimitations of xylose tolerance test as a screening procedure in childhood coeliac disease.
The usefulness of the xylose tolerance test as a screening procedure for coeliac disease has been reassessed in 54 children with suspected coeliac disease. 5- and 24-hour urinary excretion rates of xylose were of no value in discriminating between patients with and without coeliac disease; similarly, the 3-hour blood xylose concentration was nondiscriminatory. Three (15-8%) patients with subtot...
متن کاملIntestinal permeability in coeliac disease: the response to gluten withdrawal and single-dose gluten challenge.
Intestinal permeability has been studied in 21 patients with coeliac disease in relapse and after gluten withdrawal using an oral test of intestinal permeability based on the simultaneous oral administration of two probe molecules. The increased absorption of the larger molecule (cellobiose) and the decreased absorption of the smaller (mannitol) found in untreated coeliac disease both returned ...
متن کاملCellular infiltrate of jejunal biopsies in adult coeliac disease (ACD) in relation to gluten withdrawal.
A comparison has been made of inflammatory cell counts in the lamina propria and epithelium of jejunal biopsies in 11 patients with adult coeliac disease with those found in 12 control subjects. In the coeliac patients, there were significant increases in the numbers of total cells, plasma cells, and intraepithelial lymphocytes, but a significant reduction in lamina propria lymphocytes. Followi...
